The Council of Commissioners

The Western Québec School Board is governed by a Council of 16 commissioners. Eleven commissioners are elected every four years by voters on the English Electors List, each representing a ward within the territory. Four Parent Commissioners are appointed through school‑level elections (Parents’ Committee & Governing Board), and the Chairperson is elected by universal suffrage. The Council meets monthly and operates under the responsibilities set out in Québec’s Education Act, representing the needs and expectations of the community while helping shape the board’s overall direction and priorities.

Together, commissioners ensure that schools and centres receive the support needed to deliver high‑quality educational services. They oversee the effective management of the board’s human, material, and financial resources, carry out mandates assigned by Council, and report on specific issues as required. As a collective body, the Council sets policy, monitors the Commitment to Success Plan, approves contracts, and adopts the annual budget for the Western Québec School Board.
