The Director General
George Singfield is a lifelong and dedicated educator who has served the Western Québec School Board for more than 40 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held several key leadership roles, including Secretary General, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Corporate Services. In June 2023, he assumed the role of Director General, bringing his deep knowledge of the organization, commitment to public education, and unwavering support for students and staff to the forefront of his leadership. His decades of experience and his passion for education continue to guide the Western Québec School Board in its mission to provide high‑quality learning environments for all students.
Senior Directors
The Board is led by a team of seven senior directors and is organized into eight main departments that oversee all aspects of its mandate, including curriculum, buildings, school maintenance, staffing, and transportation. Every employee plays a vital role in delivering the high‑quality bilingual education offered in our schools.

Departments
The General Directorate provides leadership, direction, and strategic oversight for all Western Québec operations. Composed of the Director General, Assistant Director General, the Secretary General/Director of Corporate Services, this team ensures that every aspect of the school board—from budgeting and educational services to governance and public accountability—functions effectively and cohesively. Politically, the General Directorate works closely with the Council of Commissioners to implement board policies, support informed decision‑making, and uphold the democratic stewardship of public education. It also manages the board’s relations with the provincial Ministère de l’Éducation (MEQ), ensuring compliance, advocating for the needs of our communities, and representing Western Québec within the broader provincial education network. Through this careful balance of operational management and political collaboration, the General Directorate guides the board in fulfilling its mission to serve all learners across our vast territory.
Western Québec’s Educational Services is dedicated to creating and nurturing lifelong learners by ensuring that every student receives the best possible education in a safe and supportive environment. Guided by a commitment to student success, board‑level decisions directly support classroom practices and the day‑to‑day experiences of learners across all our schools. We focus on each student’s unique learning abilities, fostering inclusive, engaging, and forward‑thinking educational pathways that help every learner thrive.
Western Québec provides high‑quality educational opportunities for adult learners through six Adult Education and Vocational Training centres. Serving a vast and diverse territory—including the Outaouais, Pontiac, and Abitibi‑Témiscamingue regions—our centres deliver accessible, flexible, English‑language learning designed to meet the needs of adults at every stage of life. In addition to in‑person programs, our Adult Education Services are available virtually through Distance Education, ensuring that learners across the region can pursue their goals, upgrade their skills, and build pathways to new careers—no matter where they live.
Western Québec is committed to ensuring that all students achieve success, and our model of service delivery is rooted in the belief that inclusive education benefits everyone. The Complementary Services Department plays a key role in this commitment by supporting students with special needs and the staff who work with them. Our team collaborates closely with schools to provide the expertise, resources, and services required to help every learner thrive in an inclusive environment. By focusing on individualized support, early intervention, and strong partnerships, we help create learning spaces where all students can participate, grow, and reach their full potential.
From managing student admissions and ensuring compliance with Bill 101 requirements to providing Mozaïk and GPI support for schools—and, of course, coordinating all aspects of student transportation—the School Organization & Transportation Department plays a vital role in the smooth operation of our school board. Our team works behind the scenes to make sure every student is properly registered, every school has the tools and data support it needs, and every bus route runs safely and efficiently. By overseeing these essential services, we help create a seamless, organized, and supportive environment that allows schools to focus on what matters most: student learning and success.
The Human Resources Department plays a vital role in supporting student success by hiring, promoting, and developing qualified, professional staff across the school board. HR provides guidance and support to management teams on staffing, labour relations, and workplace practices, ensuring that schools and centres have the personnel they need to thrive. The department also offers all employees clear, reliable services related to career development, compensation, and benefits. Through its commitment to strong recruitment, fair practices, and ongoing professional growth, Human Resources helps create a positive and supportive environment for every member of the Western Québec community.
The Finance Department oversees all financial matters for the school board, including schools, centres, and daycares, ensuring strong stewardship of public funds. The team is also responsible for administering all school tax operations. Funding received from the province and through taxation is distributed fairly and transparently, guided by our schools’ socio‑economic rankings so that resources are directed where they are needed most. Through careful management and clear financial practices, the department supports the success and sustainability of all Western Québec schools and services.
Our Buildings & Equipment Department is committed to supporting the school board’s mission by ensuring the best possible learning environment through the effective and efficient management of all facilities and resources. We provide healthy, safe, well‑maintained, and well‑operated buildings by delivering responsive maintenance, custodial, engineering, and construction services tailored to the needs of each learning community. Our team upholds high standards of cleanliness, operational efficiency, repairs, and preventive maintenance while ensuring full compliance with environmental, energy, safety, and security requirements. We also offer strong financial and administrative support, foster effective communication and positive relationships with our school communities, and prioritize ongoing, meaningful staff development.
The mandate of the Information Technology Department is to provide support in all activities of the School Board when technology is involved. These responsibilities are split into two main domains: administrative systems and pedagogical services.
